The Season of Rebirth

2 Apr

Susie has completed four of eight weeks of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).  Middle of last week was quite hard for her.  She did not want to continue.  The treatment is not painful, but she feels very different after it.  The closest I could say is she gets agitated, like when she is on high dose steroids.  So, I suggested she take a one week break and then return to complete the remaining four weeks.  She liked my suggestion, and the second half of the week’s treatment went smoothly.

We’ve referred to the one week hiatus as her Spring Break.  The other analogy is she’s climbed the top of the mountain and is enjoying the view.  We are just hoping the rest of the treatment will be downhill.  In the meantime, we’ve gotten our garden in a bit of order.  More importantly, Susie has started to be able to use your iPhone again.  She has watched a few shows on it and we played two games of Scrabble last night.  So, I think she is improving cognitively.

Last April, Susie was in the hospital due to low sodium levels, hyponatremia.  Needless to say, we were not in a condition to join or host a Pesach Seder.  With the first night of Pesach about a week away, Monday the 10th of April, I am waffling yet again.  Maybe this one week break will provide inspiration and rebirth to all of us.

For now, I remain cautiously optimistic and hopeful.
